Stop-Motion Animation!

The different types of transitions are:
~ The Fade

  • There are two types; fade in (beginning of a sequence) and fade out (end of a sequence)
  • The fade can be used to represent the passage of time

~ The Dissolve

  • A visually smooth transition between one or more shots/scenes
  • Can also be used to "pass time" or a change of scene
  • Handles are needed (short sequences before and after that will allow for the dissolve)

~ The Cut

  • The cut is used to flash between scenes; it can give the overall vibe of a sequence
  • A point where two shots come together- most basic transitions

Questions you should ask before placing a transition are:

  1. Do I need a transition?
  2. What transiton will enhance my story line?
  3. Which transition would would detract from my video?

I would use the transitions to cut between scenes. The fade or dissolve would be best for the passage of time and/or change of location.
